Colourstrings is the place for young children 3 months to 8 years old to learn to sing, love music and reach their full musical potential.

Colourstrings is an innovative "child-friendly" approach to music education that incorporates Kodaly, Orff and Dalcroze teaching. Our program is designed to provide children with the skills to develop a social, emotional and artistic relationship with music for life. Established in Finland for over 40 years, Colourstrings is recognized world-wide for its unique and remarkable music curriculum and we are truly excited to be the first to offer it in Canada.

What makes Colourstrings Unique?

We offer the ONLY music curriculum that can take a child from the earliest playful music experiences through to music literacy and seamlessly onto instrumental lessons. We are a team of enthusiastic, professional musicians and early childhood music educators specializing in Colourstrings.

Colourstrings is not a franchise. We are an independent music practice and this enables us to maintain the highest quality music education based on the latest proven research.

Our unique approach entices children to embark on musical adventures that will enable each child to fulfil their musical potential without any pressure, developing confident and creative individuals that are excited and passionate about sharing their music-making with others.

Why is it called Colourstrings?

Developed by Hungarian-born violinist Dr. Géza Szilvay in 1970’s, Colourstrings started as an approach to teaching stringed instruments and using coloured music notation to simplify early music reading. Dr Szilvay based his teaching methods on Kodály principles, which evolved to form the successful music and movement program and children can now choose to learn violin, cello, piano, guitar, mini-bass or flute through Colourstrings.

Colourstrings Clap" Colourstrings is an exceptional method in the training of young musicians and I have yet to experience a more successful approach to developing musicianship, aural awareness and solid musical principles in the very young "
