An Introductory Workshop to Colourstrings Early childhood Music

Colourstrings teachers’ courses are designed to help those who teach children aged 2 to 7 to develop their students’ musicianship through the voice, and through natural body movement.

They concentrate on the following areas: using the body and the voice to help children to feel and understand rhythm, melody, phrasing and harmony;teaching musical literacy using singing and movement;choosing and using children’s instruments in such a way as to preserve and enhance their co-ordination and sense of rhythm.

All courses are practical and hands-on. A large number of wonderful songs and activities are covered. Multi-sensory teaching aids are used. Many beautiful instruments are played. Information is provided about sources of further training, books, materials, teaching aids & instruments.

Teachers that would like to become an Associate Colourstrings Early Years music Specialist need to undergo an intensive twelve month training program. Our educators are trained by Karen MacKenzie, one of the world’s foremost authorities on early childhood music education.

Introductory Workshop to Colourstrings Violin, Viola and Cello

Colourstrings is a comprehensive, Kodaly-based approach to string teaching that has already produced outstanding results across Europe, UK, Australia and beyond. The approach was developed by Geza Szilvay, a Hungarian violinist based in Finland, who is now regarded as one of the most significant music educators of the past fifty years.

The Colourstrings approach develops a solid musical foundation for the young child. At the very beginning of learning to play an instrument the child will master the elements on which all of the later musical and technical requirements are based. It is essential, particulary in the early years, that instrumental  teaching is of the highest quality. These formative first years are cruicial for the child´s future in music.

This workshop will provide an overview of the curriculum for teachers.  Teachers are invited to bring an instrument.
