working together in a group, children will explore, discover and create whilst building
core musical skills.
Exclusively offered through the VSO School of Music this

The Carnival of the
Animals is an imaginative musical suite of fourteen movements by the French
composer Camille Saint-Saëns that has delighted generations since its first
performances in 1922. Each movement depicts a different animal and features an
orchestral instrument.
In this camp, children will take part in an imaginary
carnival celebration and become familiar with Saint-Saëns
music. What would
a kangaroo sound like on the xylophone? How could a painting turn into music?
Children will be encouraged to conjure pictures in their minds, and then turn
their imaginations into music, using xylophones and an array of percussion
instruments. We will explore impressionist art and create art, crafts and
percussion instruments to take home.

An orchestra is one of the world’s most amazing human
structures, in which individuals work together to create something greater than
the sum of its parts.
In
this camp, children will be guided to hand craft their own cardboard replicas
of string instruments, then transform them into a visual piece of art. We will
learn humorous stories about famous composers as well as the basic concepts of
conducting an orchestra. On the last day
of camp children will form an imaginative ‘orchestra’ as their paper
instruments come alive and they present their debut concert. The Paper
Orchestra develops a strong sense of community through imparting the concept
that every individual has an integral role to play.

instruments to take home. We will explore abstract art and encourage
children to think about the different characteristics of sea
